So, you’ve decided a coworking space is right for you. Excellent choice! Now for the tricky (and exciting) part – finding the best one for your business.

Whether you’re a freelancer, startup or SME, choosing a coworking space is more than finding somewhere to set up your laptop. It’s about finding an environment you feel comfortable, in that supports your productivity, and sets your business up for success.

(No pressure, then!)

It can all feel a bit overwhelming, especially with so many options to choose from. That’s why we’ve put together six key questions to help you find the perfect coworking space for you and your business.

Question #1: What’s my budget?

A coworking space can be a great money-saver thanks to lower setup costs, flexible memberships and shared facilities. But it’s still important to keep in mind how much you’re willing to spend on a workspace.

Many places offer different coworking features, which can affect the price. So, make sure you know what’s a business ‘need’ and what’s a ‘nice-to-have’ when deciding on your budget.

Also, look for coworking spaces with flexible membership options to suit different needs and budgets, like pay-as-you-go hourly plans (aka our flex membership) and unlimited monthly memberships that can save you money in the long run. Oh, and remember to check what’s included and if there are any extra costs. With Work.Life, everything’s included.

Question #2: Is the location right for me?

When choosing a coworking space, you want somewhere that’s easy for you, your colleagues, and clients to get to. So, check it’s close to public transport and major roads. Plus, look for a workspace that’s surrounded by local conveniences like lunch spots, bars, and retail shops – you know, all the essentials.

A great location isn’t just about convenience; it’s a game-changer for productivity and morale. Studies reveal that 75% of employees value shorter commutes and nearby amenities as critical to workplace satisfaction. Exciting, accessible areas don’t just simplify your workday – they can boost creativity, networking opportunities, and even your ability to attract and retain top talent. After all, being in the right place can set the tone for success.

If you want recommendations, London, Reading and Manchester are at the top of our list – it won’t be hard to guess why.

Question #3: Does it have flexible workspace options?

The best coworking spaces let you work the way you want, offering everything from hot-desking to private offices to suit different styles. Look for meeting rooms with video conferencing, sound-proof phone booths for calls, and tech that actually works – it makes a huge difference.

But it’s not just about desks. Are there breakout areas for relaxing, socialising, or brainstorming away from your desk? These spaces can boost creativity and productivity.

Make sure the space can grow with you. Whether you’re expanding or scaling down, flexible options are key. And if your work hours don’t fit the typical 9-5, be sure to check the access hours. Our spaces are open from 8:30am to 8:30pm for Flex members and 24/7 for Unlimited members and residents. So, if you need to hop on a call with someone halfway across the world, you can! We don’t recommend working late often, but hey, it builds character, right?

Question #4: Are there collaboration and networking opportunities?

One of the perks of a coworking space is the chance to build connections with the people you share it with. This access to a mix of professionals from diverse industries and backgrounds can help you meet new clients, share ideas and get different perspectives.

Look for a place that connects you with other members through networking and social events. For instance, all Work.Life coworking spaces have dedicated membership teams who are there to listen, bring people together and create a fun and collaborative work environment.

We also hold regular social events like Wellness Wednesday and Beer & Pizza on Thursdays to get members together and keep on top of that all-important workplace happiness. Check out our socials to see the types of things we’ve been up to recently.

Question #5: What about other amenities?

Creativity and productivity flourish in coworking spaces as long as you have the amenities you need. This varies from person to person, but an awesome workspace will have everything your heart desires, like super-fast WiFi, a fully stocked kitchen and secure lockers.

Other coworking features you should know about are:

  • Showers
  • Dog friendly
  • 24/7 access
  • Bike storage
  • Event space
  • Free snacks and coffee on tap

Make sure you have a list of all your non-negotiables when you’re on the hunt for your perfect spot.

Question #6: Is it a work environment I feel comfortable in?

This one’s huge – book a tour before you make your decision so you can really get a feel for the place. Take a seat at a desk. Is it somewhere you can see yourself working? Do you feel inspired? Is there lots of natural light?

Office design plays a big part in comfort but dig deeper into the company culture. Have a peek at their social media to see what they’re all about. Plus, check if their values align with your own.

Here at Work.Life, we pride ourselves on creating inclusive workspaces that celebrate diversity, where you can challenge yourself and be yourself. And if an eco-friendly coworking spot is important to you, check out our sustainability goals.
