After-work drinks – Top 5 places to go

Borough has oodles of pubs and bars, perfect for kicking back and having a relaxed evening with your work buddies. From classic British pubs to swanky cocktail bars, here are some of our top suggestions for a well-deserved after-work drink (or maybe two, who’s counting!):

  1. The Rake

If you’re all about beer, The Rake is for you. It might be small, but it’s got a massive selection of draught ales and bottled beers from all over the world. It’s also got a laid-back vibe and an outdoor seating area for some al fresco sipping.

  1. Nine Lives Bar

Easily one of the most Instagrammable bars in London, this cocktail bar is a hidden gem. The bartenders are skilled mixologists, and the cosy ambience makes it perfect for a more upscale after-work drink. Bonus points for their sustainable ethos, too!

  1. The George Inn

The George Inn is a must-visit if you’re looking for a classic British pub experience with a touch of history. It’s one of London’s oldest pubs and offers a charming atmosphere, a range of drinks and a large courtyard seating area.

Parks in Borough – Green spaces to enjoy

Did you know that Southwark is one of the greenest boroughs in London? It has 130 parks and open spaces to enjoy, so that means lots of choices near Borough.   Here are some green spaces to explore on your lunch break:

Southwark Park

This place is the biggest park in the borough and has all sorts of cool stuff like sports facilities, a café, an art gallery, a boating lake, and some beautiful gardens.

Leathermarket Gardens

The green space is the result of post-WW2 clearance when most of the site was flattened by bombs – a bit morbid, but a lovely ornamental garden to stroll around, nonetheless.

Red Cross Garden

This one’s a hidden gem. It’s small but a total haven for wildlife and anyone looking to escape the chaos of London. If you’re into peace and quiet, this is your spot.

Potter’s Field Park

Right next to Tower Bridge, this place is an urban oasis where you can soak in those iconic London sights, get some exercise in or just have a chill al fresco lunch.

Getting to Borough – Public transport

Minutes from London Bridge station and Tower Bridge, Borough is a breeze to stroll around. You can soak in all those iconic sights and discover a treasure trove of shops and markets. And if you’re worried about getting around, don’t sweat it – it’s also super well-connected, making your daily commute a piece of cake.  Tube: You can hop on the Northern Line right from Borough Station. Plus, London Bridge and Elephant & Castle stations are close by and give you access to the Bakerloo, Jubilee, and Waterloo & City lines.  Rail: For those longer journeys, you’ve got London Bridge and Waterloo as your go-to National Rail mainline stations.  Bus: Reach almost every corner of London by bus from Borough. Buses from London Bridge station travel north to the City and south to Elephant & Castle.  River: There are half-hourly riverboat services that cruise over to Canary Wharf and Greenwich from London Bridge pier.  So, whaddaya think?
